Indian Forest Services Examination (IFS) is an influential and esteemed examination of the country and UPSC conducts it every year. This examination is conducted for recruitment of officers for the Indian Forest Service cadres with cadre strength of 2826 where a number of 1968 are recruited through direct recruit posts and a number of 858 are the promotion posts.
IFS being the All India Service, the candidates are recruited by the Government of India; their services are put under the various State cadres for serving the Central as well as the State Government.
Following are the posts on which the qualified candidates of Indian Forest Services Examination (IFS):
• Assistant Conservator
• District Conservator
• Chief Conservator
• Principal Conservator
• Inspector General of forests
• Apex post is of Environment Secretary in the Union Government.
Additionally, following are the designations of senior duty posts which constitute the hierarchy of Indian Forest Service in the Forest Departments in the States and Union Territories:
• Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
• Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
• Chief Conservator of Forests
• Conservator of Forests
• Deputy Conservator of Forests
Usually, UPSC conducts the Indian Forest Service Exams in the month of July and the notification for the same is issued in the month of February and March.
