Sadana and Sharma is a good book to start with. B.L. Fadia's book is also good. Dont go to Laxmikanth if your concepts are not clear, its pretty concise and to the point book. For Indian administration dont forget to read Rumki Basu's book.

Hi Yoha, If you are still studying then make sure, you do your courses very seriously. Your good academic performance will hold you in good stead in interview as well as preparing for the actual exam will become lot easier for you. start you preparation with reading a national newspaper like the TOI or the Hindu daily and thoroughly and then take it to higher levels gradually. We have very good articles and material being posted in our site all the time, so make it a habit to devote some time to studying those articles every day. All the best

If you had been an average student in you degree course, then you will have to study harder than others. You must identify the lacunae in your studies earlier and start working hard in an intelligent fashion. Dont waste too much time in theory, but make sure your concepts are clear before you move on to numericals. Devote as much time as possible to problem solving, because that will solidify the concepts in your mind.

The preparation for IES starts with your engineering itself. First make sure that you have done all your courses thoroughly.start solving the previous year question papers of IES. That will be of great help. IES exam consists of a single written stage only i.e. there will not be any preliminary. the written exam will consist both objective as well as subjective stages and you have to score well in both. As you are in a job you will be to strategically distribute your time. Make sure you make a time table and stick to it, because after job you will get very little time to prepare so you have to make most of it.

Commerce is a good optional itself, provided u r good at it. Otherwise you can go for something safe like Psychology or Geography. But again u must decide on the basis of interest u have in the subject

It is best to refer to the issue of Employment News which has the notification published in it. It will contain the revised and latest syllabus applicable for that year's Civil Service Exam.

there are no standard books, best thing will be take out all the books that you have studied for your engineering, study the UPSC syllabus for Civil Engineering thoroughly, and decide yourself if you have all the books as per the syllabus. I am sure you already have all the books required
