A simple pendulum of length l is suspended frm the ceiling of a cart wich is slidin' without friction on an inclined plane of inclination . What is the angle made by the string with the inclined plane in the mean position? Also, what is the time period of the pendulum?

 g effective = vector sum of gravitational acc. +opposite of acceleration of cart

along -ve  y axis, eff. g = g - gsin^2@   = gcos^2@ ( @ = theta)

along -ve x axis, g eff. = gsin@cos@

hence, magnitude of g eff. = gcos@.

now.. time period of pendulum, T = 2pi under root( l/g)

put g effective instead of g.

now for angle of string with ground, it will come out to be 90 - @ on taking tan^(-1)of{  y component of g eff. / x component of g eff }

since u've asked wtih inclined plane of inclination @ , angle wud be 90 - @ + @ = 90 degrees..

size doesnt matter, brains do...

hey.. sorry. i took inclination theta from -ve x axis.. but that doesnt change the answer anyways.. only change is that instead of g along -ve x now... it g effectve wil be along +ve x.. here is my analysis.

if we, take the cart as the reference frame....then we have to take into account the pseudo force!

so, the mean position is Θ from vertical as per figure!!!

and the time period

I guess this is the answer....just check it once!!!
