NEW DELHI: Directors of the seven IITs will meet on Wednesday to discuss how to implement 27 per cent quota for the OBCs which has been given the go-ahead by the Supreme Court.
"There are several issues to be discussed. But the main issue is to chalk out a strategy to implement the OBC reservation," IIT Delhi director Prof Surendra Prasad said.
The IIT directors will meet in the morning, while the IIT-JEE chairman and others from the Board of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) would meet in the evening to discuss how to fix the cut-off marks of the entrance test to accommodate the OBC students.
The directors would also discuss the enhancement of infrastructure and other facilities to increase the intake of the students.
There are presently about 4,000 seats in the seven IITs at Kharagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati and Roorkee.
The number of seats could be increased to 5,000 this year to implement the OBC quota.
Nearly 3.2 lakh students appeared in the IIT entrance test on April 13. The results would be announced in the last week of May after which counselling for admissions would start.
