It is not absolutely compulsory to join a coaching institute. But joining a coaching can certainly increase you chances provided its a good one. Coaching gives the direction to study, in the end its your own hard work which matters. There are people who have cracked this exam without coaching as well, but for that you need to have guidance from somewhere, it may be your parents, your friends, your teachers or some magazine also.
