i am having master degree in mass communication, i wish to appear in next year UPSC civil service exam, i plan to opt for political and sociology since both are related directly or indirectly to my masters syllabus, will it be useful, help me

yes it definitely will. Its always better to choose optionals that you have done before in that way you don't have to start from scratch.
